Nitrous Sedation

Commonly known as “laughing gas” it’s inhaled through the nose and provides a slight but significant amount of sedation to allow you to relax.  It works almost immediately (versus waiting for a pill to kick in) and wears off minutes after it’s stopped.  You can also eat normally and drive yourself to and from your appointment.

IV Sedation

We are the only general office that offers IV sedation for a deeper but still conscious level of sedation.  Many patients refer to this as a “miracle” and I couldn’t agree more.  Severe dental anxiety is a very real and common condition.  This leads to neglecting dental care for years and their problems to only get worse.  With a simple IV and administering the medication Versed a patient is almost instantly sleepy but still awake and able to function.  For those of you lucky enough to have procedures like a colonoscopy this is what’s often used to “calm” you.  The other nice thing about using this is it has an amnesic effect so you forget what happened like the sights, sounds, and smells of dental work.  I’ve literally had people state they thought I didn’t use the dental drill at all.  I obviously did but they just don’t recall it which is just as good as never using it.  IV sedation is also nice because it doesn’t restrict what you can or can’t eat prior to the procedure.  You do need a ride home from another person though.
