Sealants are placed on the chewing surface of newly erupted teeth. Kids permanent molars erupt around the ages of 6 and then again around 12. The chewing surface of molars oftentimes have very deep and narrow grooves which almost impossible to clean well. A sealant fills these deep grooves before a cavity has a chance to set in. The process of placing a sealant is very simple and very effective at preventing cavities. Sealants have been one of the most beneficial preventive procedures we have in Dentistry.
